Dear Nexa Community,
As we close out 2025 and look ahead to the year to come, we want to take a moment to reflect, share context, and outline where Nexa stands today and where it is heading. More than anything, this letter is an opportunity to speak directly to those who continue to support and engage with Nexa as a long-term project built on patience, conviction, and careful engineering. Building meaningful infrastructure takes time, and Nexa was never designed to be measured in weeks or months, but in years. We are grateful to everyone who understands this perspective and continues to support the mission.
Reaffirming Who We Are
Nexa is a fairly launched blockchain, built without a premine or insider allocation. From its inception, the goal has been clear: to deliver on the original vision of peer-to-peer electronic cash at global scale, using a UTXO-based architecture rooted in Bitcoin’s design principles. Rather than chasing trends or short-term narratives, Nexa has remained focused on fundamentals such as scalability, reliability, and programmability, while preserving the decentralization and permissionless access that define open blockchain systems. This commitment continues to guide every major decision we make.
Ten Years of Bitcoin Unlimited and the Road Ahead
One of the most important milestones to reflect on as we enter 2026 is the ten-year history of Bitcoin Unlimited (BU). Since its founding in 2015, BU has been deeply involved in some of the most important scaling, governance, and technical debates in the Bitcoin ecosystem. Over a decade of experience spanning Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and beyond has provided invaluable lessons. These lessons did not remain theoretical; they directly informed the design of Nexa. In many ways, Nexa represents the most complete realization of ideas BU has explored for years, now free from the constraints imposed by legacy networks.
Today, Bitcoin Unlimited consists of 20 team members spanning engineering, research, and operations. This growth reflects a sustained commitment to long-term development rather than short-term experimentation. Importantly, BU is also financially and organizationally positioned with a runway measured in roughly another decade, providing Nexa with rare stability in an industry often driven by short cycles. Nexa is not dependent on fleeting market conditions or temporary momentum. It is the product of long-standing vision and experience.
Market Cycles and Long-Term Perspective
Market conditions fluctuate, sometimes dramatically. Price movements, while visible and often emotional, are not a reliable indicator of fundamental progress. Nexa’s distribution model, like its development philosophy, is intentionally long-term. Network effects take time to form, and infrastructure matures gradually. These realities are not weaknesses; they are prerequisites for durable systems. Our focus remains on building real capability and resilience rather than reacting to short-term signals, and we believe this approach will continue to serve the ecosystem well over time.
Technology, Ecosystem, and Network Evolution
Throughout recent years and into 2025, steady progress has continued across the Nexa protocol and ecosystem. Protocol and infrastructure development has remained focused on scalability, performance, and reliability. Nexa’s scripting capabilities and on-chain programmability continue to mature, expanding what is possible for developers while maintaining the efficiency of the UTXO model. At the ecosystem layer, native tokens, NFTs, and supporting tools continue to demonstrate ongoing usage and improvements. Rather than emphasizing quantity, the priority remains on functionality and real-world applicability.
Looking further ahead, hardware-accelerated scaling remains a core part of Nexa’s long-term roadmap. Purpose-built hardware nodes are intended to strengthen decentralization and throughput as adoption grows, ensuring the network can scale responsibly without compromising its principles.
Team, Monetary Policy, and the Path Forward
Behind the technology is a team committed to building and maintaining Nexa for the long term. As noted, Bitcoin Unlimited now comprises 20 team members, reflecting a broad base of expertise and sustained organizational capacity. Team evolution over time is natural, and changes are approached thoughtfully, with a focus on efficiency, specialization, and long-term alignment rather than rapid expansion. This measured approach helps ensure continuity and consistency in development.
As part of Nexa’s long-term design, its monetary policy includes a predictable block reward halving schedule. The first Nexa halving is expected around 1 May 2026. Halvings are not events to speculate on, but structural features intended to support long-term sustainability and distribution. By acknowledging this milestone well in advance, we aim to provide clarity and transparency, reinforcing that Nexa’s economic design follows a deliberate and well-understood path.
As we enter 2026, our focus remains consistent: further refinement of the core protocol, continued ecosystem maturation, support for developers and builders, and thoughtful engagement with the broader industry and community. Progress will continue to be incremental, intentional, and grounded in real-world constraints.
Community and Governance
Open participation and transparent governance remain foundational values. Nexa inherits a governance philosophy shaped by years of experience within Bitcoin Unlimited, one that emphasizes dialogue, evidence, and long-term thinking. The community plays an essential role in this process. Whether through development, discussion, or adoption, collective participation strengthens the network over time.
Closing Thoughts
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who continues to support Nexa through periods of visibility and quiet progress alike. Your patience and engagement make long-term development possible. Nexa is built for endurance. With a strong foundation, an experienced organization behind it, and a clear long-term vision, we remain fully committed to the path ahead.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
