The final Nexa newsletter of 2025 arrives as the year comes to a close and as we enter 2026. The Nexa team extends its wishes for a productive, healthy, and successful year ahead. Looking back at December, it was a period marked by continued progress across the ecosystem. Development efforts remained active, the team expanded, and groundwork was laid for initiatives planned for the year to come.
Crypto, Not Bitcoin: As Demonstrated by the Nexa Blockchain
Andrew Stone has been involved in Bitcoin’s technical, political, and economic evolution for more than a decade. In his presentation Crypto, Not Bitcoin, he examined how Bitcoin has diverged from its original purpose, transitioning from an open, expressive peer-to-peer system into a more constrained and institutionally dominated financial asset.
The presentation advanced a broader vision of cryptocurrency as a language for expressing identity, ownership, and exchange, and demonstrated how the Nexa blockchain implements this vision in practice today.

Andrew Clifford: President of Bitcoin Unlimited & Nexa | Bitcoin MENA 2025
This interview with Andrew Clifford, President of Bitcoin Unlimited and Nexa, was recorded live at Bitcoin MENA 2025 in Abu Dhabi. The discussion explored Bitcoin’s scalability challenges, the evolution of layer one solutions, and Nexa’s UTXO based blockchain design.
Andrew reflected on discovering Bitcoin in 2012 through a Linux magazine, his early concerns regarding the one megabyte block size limit, and the role Bitcoin Unlimited played in advocating for on chain scaling, supported by early developers such as Satoshi Nakamoto, Gavin Andresen, and more.

Bitcoin Unlimited 10-Year Anniversary - Space on X
Founded on 28 November 2015, Bitcoin Unlimited reached its tenth anniversary in 2025, marking a decade characterized by technical inquiry, open governance, and sustained engagement with Bitcoin’s original design goals. To commemorate the milestone, B.U. hosted a public anniversary Space on X, bringing together developers, contributors, long-time community members, and newer participants.
The discussion served as both a celebration and a retrospective examination of Bitcoin Unlimited’s intellectual and engineering contributions, from early scaling debates to the eventual launch of Nexa as a purpose built next generation blockchain. Over the past decade, Bitcoin Unlimited consistently emphasized the principles outlined in Satoshi Nakamoto’s original whitepaper, including peer-to-peer electronic cash, open participation, and decentralized governance.

A New Chapter in Scaling: Blitz Hardware Accelerator Card for Cryptocurrency
The evolution of mining hardware has historically played a critical role in scaling proof-of-work systems. Bitcoin mining began with CPUs, transitioned to GPUs, and later to custom ASICs as participants sought greater efficiency and performance. Each generation of hardware brought measurable gains in speed, energy efficiency, and cost reduction, shaping the competitive landscape of mining. Building on these historical lessons, research into hardware acceleration continued to inform Nexa’s long term scalability strategy.

Nexa Community Letter 2025
As 2025 concluded, the Nexa team published a community letter reflecting on the year and outlining the project’s current position and long term direction. The letter emphasized Nexa’s commitment to careful engineering, patience, and long horizon infrastructure development.
Rather than focusing on short term milestones, the message reiterated that meaningful infrastructure is built over years rather than weeks or months, and expressed appreciation for community members who continue to support Nexa with this perspective in mind.

Tailstorm Implementation: Moving from a Traditional Blockchain to a Tailstorm-Style DAG
Core developers began integrating Tailstorm, a block DAG based design derived from Tailstorm research. This architectural evolution moves Nexa beyond a strictly linear blockchain toward a directed acyclic graph (DAG) of sub-blocks, while retaining a conventional chain of summary blocks. By combining these approaches, Nexa aims to benefit from advanced block propagation and mining mechanisms while maintaining compatibility with established blockchain structures.
