NEXA Development Roadmap 2026–27

The Nexa Team is excited to introduce the Nexa Development Roadmap for 2026 and part of 2027. The roadmap includes long-anticipated blockchain improvements and important infrastructure projects coming together. It is not limited to these developments, and there are plenty of side projects and ongoing works in parallel. The roadmap provides a strong signal on where Nexa is heading this year and early next. The coming two years are set to have major releases. A lot of complex developments have been taking place for a while. Blockchain projects and ecosystem applications are organized into different streams due to their focus on the blockchain protocol or focus on business-facing use-cases.

There are two main areas of development. Blockchain projects and applications, both of which serve to enable Nexa to handle 21st-century finance. This is completing the original plans for the coin and are important to growing strength within the Nexa network moving forward.

Two main areas:

  • Blockchain projects
  • Nexa applications

The ordering of the items are chronological, those at the top are for delivery soonest, bottom ones are latest. Let’s review Nexa’s newly released development plans…

Blockchain Projects

Blockchain project improvements are of major significance to the foundational layer. There are five major projects with development updates projected in the 2026 and 2027. One hardfork is included each year. Each fork will bring significant improvements to the main layer.

The 2026 Hardfork

The second Nexa hardfork is now scheduled for Q2 2026. It has a long-anticipated mining algorithm change to decentralize the mining landscape for the long-term future, It has OPcode upgrades, and finally integrates the Tailstorm protocol into the Nexa blockchain mainnet.

  • Mining Algorithm Changes
  • OPcode Improvements
  • Tailstorm Protocol Integration

With the Tailstorm protocol integration, Nexa will become the first traditional blockchain to benefit from both architectures: traditional and DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) hybrid.

Decentralized Exchange: TokaDex

One more first-of-its-kind architecture design: a decentralized exchange by Nexa, The TokaDex. Built into the blockchain approach is a token exchange for the Nexa blockchain. The team is also developing a traditional UI that users are familiar with, similar to centralized exchanges or swap services. TokaDex also supports interaction by CAPD (Counterparty and Protocol Discovery), which is a decentralized and permissionless protocol on Nexa. Long-term, anyone can design interactive interfaces for the new exchange protocol. Another hybrid approach takes the best of both worlds. Release does not have a set date, but is expected to come still in 2026.

Post Quantum Signature Scheme in Nexa Testnet

Cryptographically Relevant Quantum Computers have become a major topic in discussions about future protocol security. Attention is required soon. Nexa is already addressing the quantum threat by integrating a PQC signature scheme into the Nexa testnet, likely Dilithium. Only a scheme certified by NIST will be chosen. An early approach will allow the team to extensively test the new signature scheme. Users interested in generating transactions with the PQC wallet will be able to test this scheme firsthand in the Nexa testnet, gaining early experience. New signature schemes are expected to show in the second half of the year.

Hardware Acceleration Blitz Card

One of the most anticipated and innovative technologies in the whole cryptocurrency industry is Blitz – a hardware accelerator card for offloading signature verification from CPUs. It is designed to remove scalability bottlenecks and scale the network with hardware, addressing a major issue in blockchain technology. The FPGA card is designed for everyday users and will also be able to be re-purposed for mining. Due to the complexity of the project, the exact release date has not yet been set.

The 2027 Hardfork

The hardfork in 2027 will be the final fork for yet-to-be-planned significant improvements to Nexa. Thus far, two key focuses will remain: activating the post-Quantum signature scheme into mainnet. Additionally, UTXO commitment will become live, where a hash of the UTXO-set is stored in each block header. With all the updates, the 2027 hardfork will mark a major step towards optimized and globally ready infrastructure. By that time the team will be looking forward to major adoption and integrations into real-world applications and solutions. The exact date for the 2027 hard fork is not yet set.

Nexa Applications

The Build-on-Nexa (BON) Infrastructure

The team is also continuing to work on much anticipated Nexa scripting improvements and NexScript updates. Community and ecosystem development infrastructure is coming together with Build-on-Nexa (BON) initiatives. The playground of NexScript for developers is undergoing a reconstruction and improvement phase. With all of this in mind, more decentralized application (dApp) templates are also on the way. To provide a full set of tools, the team will also release a brand-new Python Library for Nexa. Taken together, these releases aim to boost ecosystem development and onboard new builders. BON initiatives and deliveries are planned in a few stages and will be delivered throughout the year.

NFT Trading Card Game

Blockchain technology remains to be fully utilized by developers of online digital games. Hence, Nexa is looking forward to launching its own official NFT Trading Card Game release. This will be released with online gameplay, a rarity system, and in-game blockchain assets. Some 160 unique trading cards will be in Series One, offering a fun experience, and a dedicated marketplace.

  • Online Gameplay
  • Online Rarity System
  • Card Rewards
  • Dedicated Marketplace

The NFT Trading Card Game will be a great showcase of Nexa’s capabilities in on-chain gaming, in-game assets, and will provide a proof-of-concept to demonstrate to the game incubators and development communities. A release is planned early in the second half of the year.

Commercial Proof of Concept Demo

One more proof-of-concept coming to Nexa is a decentralized prediction market. Prediction markets are becoming a significant trend, gaining in popularity. To deliver on this use case, the Nexa team is also working on a demonstration application concept to address this new, growing sphere. A prediction market can be used for sports and events betting, for political events, and for even more use cases.

Multiplatform Nexa-Enabled Apps

The framework for any kind of decentralized application will be established. New developers and users will be able to create their own Nexa applications with an example template and prepared starter applications. This simplifies onboarding for developers and entrepreneurs. It will become a key focus for the next phase of ecosystem development efforts.

  • Starter App
  • Example App
  • Example Game
  • 1–2 Simple “Twitch” Style Games

Community gaming-style applications, mini apps, interconnecting bots, AI agents, and more can be built on top of the templates, significantly increasing potential for Nexa’s adoption.

Cold Storage Wallet

The team is looking forward to integrating more cold storage wallets and intermediate applications into the Nexa ecosystem. Security is one of the most important aspects of the industry, and we look forward to these significant improvements.

  • Physical Card Purchase
  • Website / App

More cold storage wallets are planned for the post-mainnet integration of quantum signature schemes. Instead of updating old infrastructure, we are focusing on building a new one.

Wrapped BTC on Nexa

Bitcoin remains the most invested and well-known cryptocurrency. It is already offered as a 1:1 value token (wrapped BTC) on Ethereum and other major blockchains. Nexa will leverage its token and scripting functionality to also support a wrapped token. Having a BTC token on Nexa makes it possible for 3rd-parties to offer Bitcoin payment services which directly competes with the layer-2 Lightning Network. It will bring the scalability and programmability benefits of Nexa to Bitcoin users. Cheap, fast, and programmable Bitcoin infrastructure has long been envisioned, and it is finally coming together - on Nexa. The integration of Wrapped BTC is a logistically complex process and more updates will be forthcoming.

Blockchain Voting Services

Nexa’s token and scripting language will support anonymous blockchain voting protocols suitable for corporate and non-profit organization usages. The Nexa team already has a prototype application, VotePeer, which provides template functionality. The high-level design process is still required before work can proceed on voting services.

Conclusion

The Nexa team is providing a significant development roadmap, expecting to align with the community, ecosystem builders, and partner projects. It is exciting to have transparency on the major blockchain infrastructure and ecosystem projects coming together. 2026 promises to be a big year, and these developments are not everything in the pipeline.

Thank you, everyone, for following Nexa’s journey and contributing to it; without you, it wouldn’t be possible.

Huge „game changer” in crypto world!!! Tailstorm implementation= first classic chain with hybrid DAG → theoretically 10–50× higher throughput + much better confirmations than classic PoW.

Tokadex - → real competition for Uniswap / Raydium.

Wrapped BTC natively on NEXA - better than Lightning Network.

Blitz Card (Hardware Acceleration), Post-Quantum Signatures (Dilithium), NFT Games + Prediction Markets + dApp Templates and many things….. huge!!!

I hope adoption and marketing (which is a bit necessary to get the project in front of many people) will keep up with the technology. Great times lie ahead. Go NEXA!
