It is exciting to present Nexa Full-Node 2.2.0.0, an important milestone and the final checkpoint before the upcoming hard-fork with the Tailstorm integration and launch on the mainnet. We urge everyone to update their node clients to the latest version, which prepares the network for the next release.
This is a preparatory release that includes the new Tailstorm source code for the major protocol upgrade. Everyone who runs a Nexa Full-Node, whether stand-alone, integrated with a service, or as a wallet back-end: please update your clients.
We always advise you to securely back up your wallet.dat file if you hold any assets on the full-node wallet, especially before installing an upgrade.

The Next Hard-Fork
This release is the last before the next major consensus upgrade and the integration of the Tailstorm protocol. All the preparation work is done, and the upcoming hard-fork source code is already in place; however, it won’t be activated until the next release.
It is important that Nexa network participants, such as miners, exchanges, node operators, developers, infrastructure providers, and other services like wallets and marketplaces, ensure a smooth transition to the Tailstorm protocol upgrade.
Tailstorm will fundamentally change how the Nexa blockchain is functioning. To date, the blockchain largely follows the traditional security model which was inherited from Bitcoin. However, the team is improving it at the core level and introducing sub-blocks at 3 seconds intervals which will be aggregated into summary blocks at intervals averaging 2 minutes.
In practice, this means transactions will be mined and included in sub-blocks far more frequently than in traditional summary blocks. It will bring more convenience for everyday use, payments, and decentralized applications, such as DEXs and other tools that require fast block confirmations.
What’s New
The change introduced with immediate activation in this release is a safety feature called rolling checkpoints. Once a block is deep enough in the blockchain (200 blocks back), the node will mark it as settled. From that point, it’s set in stone. Nodes will refuse to accept any attempt at reorganization that far back. Checkpoints enforce agreement among all nodes on the chain’s history after a specified depth.
Beyond that, 2.2.0.0 carries a large amount of behind-the-scenes maintenance work:
-
Hardening: many improvements to the networking layer, plus thread- and memory-safety fixes that make the node more robust and stable.
-
Cleanup: old and unused pieces have been removed, including two legacy components (BIP70 and OpenSSL).
-
Tooling and dependencies have been refreshed, and the build and testing pipeline has been improved.
-
Rostrum, the indexer many services rely on, has been updated alongside this release.
To Wrap Up
Do your part now and update your Nexa Full-Node to the latest 2.2.0.0 release to support the major protocol upgrade to Tailstorm. That’s the penultimate step from each of us towards the new DAG-hybrid architecture.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this release: Andrea Suisani, Andrew Stone, Griffith, Jørgen Svennevik Notland, Peter Tschipper, Steven van den Meiracker and to the community running nodes and keeping Nexa strong.
